The following letters of reference must be provided during the
nomination process. You will have the ability to upload
the letter.
For Distinguished Member, Distinguished Service, Outstanding
Professional, Outstanding New Professional, Educator Award,
Mentor Award the following should be submitted:
Submit at three letters of reference supporting their
nomination.
For Literary Award the following should be submitted:

FHIMA DISTINGUISHED MEMBER AWARD
To recognize and honor a member of FHIMA for
their outstanding service to the Association and their
contributions to the profession over an extended period of time.
CRITERIA:
-
Demonstrated excellence in the management of personnel, finances and/or systems;
-
Displayed innovation and creativity that exceeds ordinary problem-solving
ability;
-
Exhibited leadership qualities, i.e. local/state level-committee
participation, chairmanship, officer, delegate advocate;
-
Exhibits a strong dedication to professionalism which is evident in
appearance, attitude and;
-
Must be an active member of FHIMA.
FHIMA DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
To recognize FHIMA members and non-members who
have made a significant contribution through service to FHIMA.
CRITERIA:
-
Completed a major project for the
Association in an outstanding manner;
-
Displayed innovation and creativity through
service projects;
-
Served the Association in a particular role
in a manner of excellence over multiple years;
-
Supported the Association through special
efforts or leadership in accomplishment of a goal
OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL AWARD
To recognize active FHIMA members who
demonstrate innovation and creativity in the practice of HIM on
the state and local level.
CRITERIA:
-
Completed a successful project which
significantly contributed to advancement of profession.
-
Advancement of medical record education and
the growth of future health information management
professionals;
-
Published article in professional journal or
presented paper to professional association regarding this
project
OUTSTANDING NEW PROFESSIONAL AWARD
To recognize a FHIMA member who has made
significant contribution to the profession within five years
from the date of initial certification as a Health Information
Management professional.
CRITERIA:
-
Demonstrated excellence in the management of
personnel, finances and/or systems;
-
Displayed innovation and creativity that
exceeds ordinary problem-solving ability;
-
Exhibited leadership qualities, i.e.
local/state level-committee participation, chairmanship,
officer, delegate advocate;
-
Exhibits a strong dedication to
professionalism which is evident in appearance, attitude
and;
-
Must be an active member of FHIMA.
OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD
To recognize a student who has made a contribution to the profession/association
through special projects or service. (Candidates must be students who are
currently enrolled in an AHIMA approved HIT/HIM program in Florida.)
CRITERIA:
-
Demonstrated academic excellence by GPA and/or high score on the
registration/accreditation examination;
-
Published articles for Coastlines or JAHIMA or other professional journals;
-
Demonstrated innovation and creativity through completion of special student
projects;
-
Served FHIMA through assistance with projects or committees;
-
Promoted the profession through recruitment efforts, as leader of student
HIM/IT association or as member of student body committees or boards;
-
Must be a student member of AHIMA.
FHIMA LITERARY AWARD
To recognize FHIMA members who have made a significant contribution to the body
of knowledge in health information science and management through the
preparation of a single outstanding publication, or a body of publications
which, taken as a whole, represent a significant contribution.
CRITERIA:
-
Authored, co-authored, edited or co-edited material available to the HIM
profession through publication in a recognized professional journal, through a
recognized professional association or by a recognized publisher. Published
books, manuals or teaching material related to the profession will be considered
(copies or publication mist be submitted for judges review – all material will
be returned upon request).

Must be an active member of FHIMA.
FHIMA EDUCATOR AWARD
To recognize FHIMA members who demonstrate excellence in preparing the next
generation of professionals for their HIM careers. Qualified individuals or
departments of educators/instructors teach in a formal Health Information
Administration or Technology program that grants associate, baccalaureate or
masters degrees and actively participate in the state and local level.
CRITERIA:
-
Development and implementation of creative teaching tools and methods
-
High standards of excellence and high expectations of students
-
Awareness of the instructor’s impact as a role model
-
Commitment to student mentoring in the classroom and beyond
-
Outstanding contributions to the research base of the field
-
Advancement of HIM education and the growth of future HIM professionals
FHIMA MENTOR AWARD
To recognize FHIMA members with long records of encouraging students or
colleagues to realize their full potential and have helped others find ways to
achieve their best. (May be awarded posthumously.)
CRITERIA:
-
A record of motivating talented young people to enter the HIM profession
-
Providing ongoing, long-term career guidance to one or more HIM professional
-
Encouraging young professionals to become involved in state and local HIM
activities
-
Fostering enthusiasm for the profession
-
Willingness to provide clinical sites and supervision for multiple students
designed to help them achieve exemplary HIM competencies
-
Support of the training process for new professionals through teaching,
serving on panels or advisory committees, and advising individual students
-
Serve as a mentor who guides students to new opportunities and fosters their
enthusiasm for the profession.
