Assists department director in carrying out responsibilities of the Health Information Management Department. Provides managerial expertise and support in the planning, organization, supervision and coordination of the operational and budgetary activities of the coding/clinical data management and reporting areas. Responsible for initiating, facilitating, monitoring and promoting the attainment of timely and high quality coding/clinical data collection and database reporting. Responsible for leadership and supervision of employees; staff training and skill assessment; assessment and organization of workflow; maintenance of up-to-date policies and procedures; attends and manages committee activities as assigned. Promotes quality and teamwork across the department. Communicates and participates in quality improvement initiatives within the department and across ACHS as appropriate.
Education and Experience:
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist preferred. Bachelor’s degree required, in lieu of bachelors degree, an associates degree with experience will be considered. Recent and extensive ICD-9-CM and CPT experience required. Pediatric experience highly desired. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification: RHIA or RHIT; membership and current continuing education certification with AHIMA. Good interpersonal skills required. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to relate well with people of diverse backgrounds, training, and experience. Must be able to move freely about the department, facility and hospital campus.
