Just in Time: FY 2019 ICD-10-CM/PCS and IPPS Changes
This 90-minute presentation will present the details of the significant changes to ICD-10 CM and PCS including changes to the guidelines and explain the logic of the PCS changes. Fiscal year 2019 IPPS changes related to ICD coding will be presented with explanations.
Barbara J. Flynn, RHIA, CCS, AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, is the Vice President for Health Information Management Services and Denial Management Services for the Florida Hospital Association Management Corporation (FHAMC). Barbara developed the Health Information Management Services for Florida Hospital Association (FHA) 25 years ago to provide much needed services to the hospitals in the state of Florida. Barbara developed service lines to assist member hospitals with HIM staffing, coding and billing compliance, interim management, educational programs, documentation improvement programs, and insurance and RAC denial appeals. These services are now provided nationwide. Barbara has been a frequent presenter over the last 30 years on Coding, Billing, Documentation Improvement and Compliance issues and is a well-known expert in this field.
Brandy Ziesemer, MA, RHIA, CCS, ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer
Brandy Ziesemer is the health information program manager and a professor with Lake-Sumter State College. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator and a Certified Coder Specialist. In addition to AHIMA and FHIMA, she is a member of: the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and of the Professional Association of Healthcare Office Managers (PAHCOM – pronounced PAY COM).
Brandy was the FHIMA State Advocacy Coordinator from July 2015-June 2017 and the ICD-10-10 Task Force Leader from July 2013-June 2015. She is currently the Coding Roundtable Committee Chair.
She is a regular speaker at “Food for Thought” sessions for practice managers affiliated with Florida Hospital Waterman. Recent topics include: MACRA/MIPS; Documentation Improvement to increase the accuracy and specificity of ICD-10-CM code selection; mastering the correct use of CPT/HCPCS modifiers and Evaluation & Management Coding.
Brandy has co-authored a CPT coding book, contributed to a health informatics book and written a text on Medical Office Management and Technology. She is also the editor of PAHCOM’s six Practice Management Manuals and an advisor to PAHCOM’s education staff.
Brandy has been awarded 3 service awards through FHIMA: Educator of the Year; Literary Award and in 2015, Distinguished Services Award.
