Medical coders help to complete, review, and process medical claims to help physician practices and hospitals get reimbursed from insurance companies for services and facilities provided to patients.
A Sr. Outpatient Coder at the University of Miami is responsible for reviewing the clinical documentation contained in the UHealth patient health records (regardless of medium in which the patient documentation is maintained) to accurately assign and sequence ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnostic and/or CPT E&M and procedural codes to outpatient records for use in reimbursement and data collection. Codes non-invasive ancillary test accounts and Emergency Department encounters.
Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder – Outpatient Hospital (CPC-H), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRC), or Radiology Certified Coder (RCC)
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator credential (RHIA)
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience and Memberships:
- Minimum 3 years of hospital outpatient coding experience
- Preferred – Member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Association of Professional Coders
- (AAPC), with maintenance of continuing education requirements
Fluent in English, both oral and written
Onsite at assigned facility
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during regular business hours (8:30am-5pm)
Travel – 0%
Successfully pass the UHealth coding assessment with a score of 85% or higher.
